Questions
Questions worth asking before you buy
Including the ones with answers we would rather be different. If something here is a dealbreaker, it is better found now than after a run.
What it does
- Is this just machine translation with extra steps?
- No. A translation preserves your sentence; this writes a new one for the destination marketplace. A German compound noun becomes a French phrase in French word order, a Dutch compound stays welded together because splitting it would destroy the search term, and the everyday word is chosen over the dictionary word. The output is checked against Amazon field limits in code before it can go in a file.
- Which marketplaces does it cover?
- Seven: amazon.fr, amazon.it, amazon.es, amazon.nl, amazon.pl, amazon.se and amazon.de. Any one of them can be the source and the rest can be targets. Poland and Sweden do not price in euro, which matters when you plan the expansion rather than just the copy.
- Does it upload to Amazon for me?
- No, and it never will. Utlista has no Amazon API access and holds no Seller Central credentials. Every run produces a tab separated upload file per marketplace which you download and upload yourself, in your own account. A tool with write access to your catalogue is a tool that can damage it.
- Does it change my existing listings?
- No. The catalogue you upload is read, never written to. A run creates new copy for other marketplaces and leaves the source listing exactly as it was.
Whether the copy is any good
- How do I check copy in a language I do not speak?
- That is the problem the quality gate exists for. Every listing is checked in code before it can enter the upload file: field lengths, search terms measured in bytes, required fields present, whether the text is actually in the target language, and whether it reads as localised rather than transliterated. Anything that fails is held back and shown to you with the reason rather than shipped quietly.
- What happens to a listing that fails a check?
- It stays out of the upload file and appears in the run marked as held back, with the specific reason. You can read it, edit it, or accept it deliberately and rebuild the files. Nothing is silently dropped and nothing is silently included.
- Will it invent product details?
- It is not supposed to, and the copy is written from what your export contains. It does not add measurements, materials, certifications or claims that were not in your source. If your source data is thin, the output will be thin rather than imaginative - an invented claim is a suppressed listing or a legal problem.
- Is the search term research real?
- Not yet, and we do not count it as a feature. The copy is written for the destination market, but search terms are not yet researched per product - the current seed list works by category, which is too coarse to claim as keyword research. Writing in the right words gets a listing read; ranking for the terms with demand behind them is a separate problem we have not shipped.
Amazon rules that catch people out
- What is the Amazon title limit now?
- Seventy-five characters including spaces, in every category except Media, since 27 July 2026. It was 200 before that. Amazon does not reject a longer title: it replaces it with an AI-generated one, with a 14 day review window for brand owners and no notification at all for other sellers. Utlista gives the model 75 as its budget before it writes, so titles arrive inside the limit rather than being cut at it.
- Why do my backend search terms get cut off?
- Because Amazon measures them in bytes, not characters, and every accented letter in French, Spanish, Italian, Swedish or Polish costs two bytes in UTF-8. Two hundred and fifty characters of French can be close to 280 bytes, and Amazon drops the overflow with no error anywhere. Utlista measures and trims by byte, cutting between characters so a split letter never reaches a live listing.
- Does Utlista handle GPSR compliance?
- No. Regulation (EU) 2023/988 has applied since 13 December 2024: Article 19 requires an online offer to indicate any warning or safety information, and Article 9(7) requires that information in a language easily understood by consumers in the Member State where the product is sold. Utlista writes the title, bullets, description and search terms and does not touch safety or compliance text. Localising your warnings remains your responsibility.
- Are the other field limits verified?
- The title limit is. The bullet, description and search term budgets in the checker are working estimates from published guidance, not numbers read off a real category listing template for each of the seven marketplaces. They are deliberately conservative, but they are not confirmed, and we would rather say so than imply a precision we do not have.
Files, data and money
- What file do I upload?
- Any CSV or tab separated export from Seller Central. Reports, then Inventory Reports, then download any listings report. It does not matter which report you choose, because you tell us which column is which on the next screen, and you see the first rows exactly as the parser read them before anything is saved.
- What do you do with my catalogue?
- It is stored so that runs can be made from it and so you can come back to a run later. It is not sold, not shared, and not used to train anything. You can delete your account and its data from your account settings.
- What does the free plan include?
- Ten products and one marketplace per run, with no card. The writing is identical on every plan - a cheaper tier does not get worse copy, because copy that gets a listing suppressed costs the seller more than we ever charged them. Paid plans raise the catalogue size and open all seven marketplaces.
- Can I cancel?
- Yes, at any time, from your account. There is a cancellation route reachable from the footer of every page without signing in, which is what section 312k BGB requires.
Ten products, no card, nothing to cancel.
