GPSR: your safety information must be in the buyer's language
Most coverage of GPSR is about appointing an EU Responsible Person. There is a second obligation that gets far less attention and bites precisely when you expand: the safety information in your offer has to be in the language of the country you are selling into.
Not legal advice
Utlista is a copywriting tool. This page quotes the regulation so you can read it yourself and know the question exists. Whether and how it applies to your products is a question for someone qualified to answer it.
What the regulation actually says
Regulation (EU) 2023/988, the General Product Safety Regulation, has applied since 13 December 2024. Two articles matter here.
Where economic operators make products available on the market online or through other means of distance sales, the offer of those products shall clearly and visibly indicate at least the following information: [...] (d) any warning or safety information to be affixed to the product or to the packaging or included in an accompanying document in accordance with this Regulation or the applicable Union harmonisation legislation.
Manufacturers shall ensure that their product is accompanied by clear instructions and safety information in a language which can be easily understood by consumers, as determined by the Member State in which the product is made available on the market. That requirement shall not apply where the product can be used safely and as intended by the manufacturer without such instructions and safety information.
Read together: the offer itself has to show the warnings, and the safety information has to be in a language the consumers of that Member State can easily understand. Note the final sentence of 9(7) - products that can be used safely without instructions are carved out, which is why this is a question about your particular products rather than a blanket rule.
Why this lands on you exactly when you expand
One marketplace is one language. Five marketplaces is five versions of the same warning.
A seller operating only on amazon.de has German safety text and the question never comes up. The moment the same product is listed on amazon.fr, amazon.it and amazon.es, the obligation is about French, Italian and Spanish - and it attaches to the offer, the product page itself, not only to what is printed on the box in the warehouse.
It is the same shape of problem as the rest of this site: something that was handled once, at home, silently becomes five things when the catalogue goes international.
Utlista does not do this
Said plainly, because this page sits on the website of a product you might otherwise assume covers it.
Utlista writes the title, bullets, description and search terms for each marketplace. It does not touch safety text, warnings, compliance attributes, or the Responsible Person fields, and it does not check whether your listing has them. If your products carry warnings, localising those is still your job and nothing on this site does it for you.
It is the largest gap in the product and it is the first thing being looked at. When it ships it will be described here as something that exists, and not before.
Read it yourself
The quotes above are verbatim and the text is public.
Regulation (EU) 2023/988 is published on EUR-Lex under CELEX number 32023R0988. The passages above were read from the official English consolidated text on 2026-10-11. Where a national authority has determined which language is required in its market, that determination is the thing that binds you, not this page.
